Minutes of Bishop’s Committee Meeting---November 12, 2006

 

Present: Royce Calhoun, Bob Keith, Rita Reiner, Liz and David Manning, Joe and Marie McShane, Susan Dunham, Thomas Sumners, Gail Moreman, Corby Craig, Mae Hernland.

 

1.        The meeting was opened with a prayer.

 

2.        Minutes were approved from the meeting of October 22, 2006.

 

3.        Treasurer’s Report/Budget Reviews—The financial report was approved with mention of $10,000 given to the Bishop’s fund as part of the Diocesan Development Fund. The budget for 2007 was reviewed and the committee determined to start a pledge campaign with a letter from the committee to be sent in December. The committee also voted to designate 10 percent of the plate offering for outreach for 2006.

 

4.        The Search Committee--Liz reported that the Search Committee was meeting this week to finalize their decision and would make a recommendation to the Bishop’s Committee.

 

5.        Habitat-- Mike gave an update on the progress of the house in Blanco.

 

6.        Junior Warden report- Mike said the fence was complete around the Sunday school house, but he recommended hiring someone to complete the rest of the fence project for approximately $1,000.

 

7.        Christie Series – The next community meeting will be in January 23 with the Johnson City Library as presenters.

 

8.        Altar Guild report -- Gail had no report at the time.

 

9.        Website Report: Thomas said the site was expanding to include schedules of lay readers/altar guild, chairs of committees, agendas of meetings.

 

10.     Christmas Services- There will be one service with communion on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. with Morning Prayer on Dec 24 and Morning Prayer on Dec 25.

 

11.     Compensation Committee—Bob named a compensation committee, which will meet to determine the financial package and present it to the new vicar when chosen.

 

12.     Capital Fund Contributions The committee recommended letting the congregation know that contributions would be accepted.

 

13.     ESL Classes: Bob said a joint project between Johnson City library and St. Luke’s to assist youngsters and adults in the English language could begin in January with the BC’s approval. The committee voted to approve this project with one dissenting vote.

 

14.     Senior Warden’s Report: Bob reminded the committee of the annual meeting on November 19.

 

15.     Vicar’s Report: Royce said that pledging and giving to the church as an exciting time for all of us.
