MINUTES---BISHOP’S COMMITTEE

September 10, 2007

The meeting opened with Prayer.  The minutes of our meeting of August 25 2007 were approved.

 

Vicar’s Report: 

            The holding of two Sunday services began on September 9; attendance was reported as 21 at the 8:00 am. and 29 at the 10:15 service, including 3 children from Sunday School and two from the nursery.

            “Blessing of the Animals” will occur at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13

            Lay Reader and Acolyte training will be given on Saturday, September 29

            Training for the Care and Protection of Children, which is mandatory, will soon be provided, time TBA.

            Confirmation Class will be held for Paige Mahoney and others desirous of such,  time/dates TBA

            Vicar’s remaining Vacation will likely be a day at a time.

            Vicar’s CE TBA

            $2,500 was received for the Discretionary Fund (in honor of the Vicar’s 60th birthday) which will be allocated:  $500 to the fund (in a to be separately created bank account to be signed by the Vicar and reported on the balance sheet monthly),$1,000 for youth, $1,000 for altar guild.

            The Vicar will attend his first Ministerial Alliance meeting on September 12;

            The Vicar reported prior home visits to Peggy Stieler, Mae Hernlund, Thomas Young, Stan and Helen Flora (several times), Jeannie Swope and Dan Snodgrass.

            “Assignments”  were made for the following members to share visits with the Vicar to the following before Thanksgiving:

The financial statements were presented in detail by David Manning and Sandi Burleson, reviewed with care by the members and approved by vote.  At the meeting of July 22 the decision had been made to remind the membership of our pledge obligations.  This produced an inflow of receipts amounting to approximately $20,000 in August ($9,000 of which was one family’s anticipated pledge for the remainder of 2007).

 

The Committee approved a motion to move $30,000 from the DDA account (operating) at Johnson City Bank, to our account at the Episcopal Diocesan Fund.

 

Warden’s Report:

            October 20 will be a workday

            October 23 will be “Oktoberfest” at the Christie Series

            The Vicar, Thomas and Paula Sumners and Mike Kelley were named to assist Joe McShane in role of a “Design and Installation Committee” for the Stations of the Cross; the sites of which have been cleaned of weeds.

 

            Bishop Reed’s visit will occur on Sunday, November 11, 2007.  Our goal is to hold a “potluck” dinner on Saturday night, November 10, in honor of the Bishop and confirmands.; and holding a single service on Sunday, November 11, at 9:00 a.m.

 

            We will seek to plan a March-April gathering, outdoors, enjoying the food and music of the “Smoking for Jesus Ministry” as one of our Christie Series programs.

 

            Tom Peterson and Corby Craig will study the liability, fire and extended coverage insurance on the church activities and property and report to the Committee at the October meeting.

 

            Discussion followed regarding:

                        Adult Sunday School is well-underway with Tom Peterson’s leadership;

                        Interest in an EFM class and the search for an available mentor;

                        Interest in an adult weekday bible study led by the Vicar.

 

            The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. with the next “Brown Bag Bishop’s Committee Meeting” called for October 8, at 6:00 p.m.
