MINUTES---BISHOP’S COMMITTEE

July 20, 2009

 

                                                     

Present: Tom Peterson, Fielding Reiner, Betsy Stephenson, David Greene, Marie McShane,.

 

Absent: Sandy Hodges, Don Gray, Thomas Sumners and Frana Keith

 

Also present: Liz Manning, Joe McShane, and Vicar Tommy Bye.

 

1.      The meeting was called to order with a prayer and a Scripture reading at 6 PM. 

 

2.      Minutes: The minutes of the June  2009 meeting were approved with corrections.

 

3.     Betsy Stephenson presented the financial statements. It was explained that donations were received totaling $3,800 for the Keith’s mission trip to Africa. The Keith’s took $1,900 of that amount with them to Africa in the form of cash to donate to the mission program. With a motion made by Tom Peterson, it was decided that the interest earnings from the Green account should be dedicated for youth efforts.

 

4.   The Junior Warden (David Green) reported on the progress of the construction of the shed to house the lawn tractor and other lawn equipment and supplies. The shed is being constructed as an addition to the stone building located in the southwest corner of the Church property. David reported that $1,619.61 had been spent to date on the shed, which included a check in the amount of $786.62 written to Sta-Built for lumber and supplies. David also reported the need for additional materials and the Committee approved up to $950 in additional funds. Additional comments by the Junior Warden are outlined in the attachment to these minutes which were passed out at the meeting.

 

5. The Senior Warden reported that the Audit Committee is to meet prior to 8/23. It was also reported that a Boy Scout “Eagle Scout” presentation might be made at the church soon for Ian Stephenson and Matt Gray.

 

6. Tommy Bye presented the Vicar’s report. He informed the committee that the Diocese allows each Vicar to miss up to 4 Sundays per calendar year with pay. On August 8th, he will have taken his fourth Sunday off for the calendar year. In addition, Vicars can take off up to 30 days per calendar year with pay. 

 

7. The Sunday School program was discussed. There is a need for more volunteers to lead classes. There was some discussion of how the youth program can be improved, but nothing was decided.

 

8. Tom Peterson suggested that the Church should initiate a planned giving program in connection with the death of parishioners. Nothing was decided on this point.

 

9. A congregational meeting was set for August 23rd following the 10:!5 service that day. it would include a “pot luck” luncheon. The Facilities Committee is to present a report to the congregation at this time.

 

 

Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Bishop’s Committee was scheduled for August 13 , 6 PM in the Parish Hall.
