MINUTES---BISHOP’S COMMITTEE
April 15, 2007

Members Not Present: Paula Sumners, Tom Peterson, Mike Kelley, Pat Burleson

The meeting opened with Prayer. The minutes of our meeting of March 18 2007 were approved, following which these reports were made:
Treasurer: The operating statement and balance sheet were received and reviewed. Adoption of a formal budget for the calendar year 2007 was scheduled for the next meeting. Purchase of a computer and printer was discussed and referred to Betsy Stephenson for further investigation and report; purchase of a storage shed at was deferred.
A motion was adopted to enlarge the budget item for scholarships to Camp Capers from $2,000 to $2,500, the additional funds to come from earnings from the CD donated by the Green Estate.
A motion was adopted (a) authorizing the Treasurer to dispense checks with only her signature for all items within the approved budget or which have
prior approval of the Bishop’s Committee. All other checks over $500 shall be signed by her and either Rita Reiner or Bob Keith (as prior Bishop’s Warden).
Vicar’s Report: The Rev. Spear reported the following Holy Week Services and attendance:
Thursday, April 5 7:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday 14
Friday, April 5 noon & 6:00 p.m. Good Friday 16 & 14
Saturday, April 7 7:00 p.m. Easter Vigil 15
Sunday, April 8 9:00 a.m. Easter 72
He also requested and received concurrence for our moving to the convocation to that of our companion congregations in Wimberly, Dripping Springs, Buda and New Braunfels. He reported that his office furnishings and bookshelves are incomplete but ‘progressing’.
Warden’s Report: Liz Manning:
a. expressed thanks to Tanya Spear for preparing and placing “pew cards” for visitors;
b. presented Bishop Lillibridge’s two initiatives of:
i. Specially honoring Visitors on the Sundays of May 6 and September 23; ii. the study of the Book of St. Luke
c. reminded us that representatives of the Johnson City Library will be our “Christie Series” guests at the hamburger cookout, 6:30 p.m., April 24.
d. invited “sign-up” for Family Sundays;
e. expressed the need for volunteers to commit food for specific Sundays;
f. sought confirmation of dates and plans for Vacation Bible School to be led by
Paula Sumners the week of June 25-29; and scheduled a meeting of interested workers for 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28.
Junior Warden’s Report in the absence of Mike Kelley it was reported:
a. the Clean-up days of March 31 and April 7 were well-attended and considerable progress was achieved on our new “Reiner tract” by David Manning notwithstanding the snow and ice on April 7;
b. the new carpet has been installed in the Hill House, now functional;
c. the Habitat House in Johnson City will soon be ready for Occupancy and dedication on May 5;
d. for discussion a walking path from the Hill House and Rector’s office to the Sanctuary and Swope Hall
Joe McShane presented questions respecting locations of Stations of the Cross, a labyrinth and columbarium.
